Our client is a leading FMCG Distributor, who are currently recruiting for an experienced Warehouse professional as they look to appoint a Warehouse Operations Manager at their site in Portbury.

The Warehouse Operations Manager for customer order fulfilment will have responsibility for the warehouse operations team covering the process from pick replenishment to the point of dispatch, whilst managing c120 people. The main goal of the Warehouse Operations Manager for customer order fulfilment is to ensure we deliver the needs of our customers. 

This role is key to delivering operational success as our client’s business expands. You will ideally have proven experience of implementation of lean management techniques with the insight to see opportunities to improve and experience to bring these to life. Your communication and collaboration skills will be needed to bring the Portbury teams and your stakeholders on the journey.

Responsibilities of the Warehouse Operations Manager:

Lead the team to deliver high levels of performance and engagement and to motivate & inspire teams working across all shift patternsDevelop a high-performance culture promoting excellent leadership standards, inspiring First Line Managers (FLMs) to develop all employees and high levels of morale.Plan and coordinate the warehouse picking team and loaders to ensure that the required level of service is provided to our customers (internal and external).Ensure compliance across the warehouse with food safety requirements and achievement of high-quality standardsOptimise and improve IT system solutions.Ensure that FLMs understand the commercial implications of the budget and that costs are managed within budget.Accountability for overall team productivity.Ensuring stock accuracy through the effective use of SAP and other warehouse management systems and processes.Instil a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team.Ensure that all requirements relating to health, safety, environment and quality are being fully implementedWork with HR to address issues within disciplinary, grievance and absence management processes.Ensure open and effective team communication.Work within budgeted team establishment levels and lead the FLMs to develop a team of suitably trained and qualified staff.Management of warehouse assets, covering maintenance, utilisation and cost control.Take a leading role in capacity planningLiaison with external service providers, especially around site management.

The Ideal Candidate for Warehouse Operations Manager:

Previous experience in a Warehouse Manager roleExperienced in the implementation of lean management techniques and process/efficiency improvementExcellent people-manager, happy to lead from the front and spend quality time in operational areasProven ability to controls costs and thinks in terms of profit, loss and added value. Good financial acumen with experience of delivering against demanding direct labour cost targetsA personal reputation for high standards of health and safetyAn expert communicator, able to connect with warehouse staff, directors and everyone in between.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and customers.An analytical fact-based approach with a good understanding of reporting and recording performance statistics.An understanding of Works Councils/ Trade Union relationshipsProblem solving skills; both in the day-to-day and at a strategic levelAgility of thought and the ability to take swift action when needed
