Strive Supply Chain are a leading management recruitment consultancy, specialising in Supply Chain, Production, Planning, Logistics, Transport & Warehouse Operations, please visit our website for further vacancies and information.

Our client is a leading 3PL, with an envied client base and turnover exceeding £25million.

Due to a period of growth, they now require a Transport Controller to control their night shift at their hugely impressive facility in Staffordshire on a Monday to Friday basis (2100hrs to 0600hrs).

As Night Transport Controller you will have full responsibility of the night operation, ensuring every trunk, trailer, and vehicle movement runs smoothly through the night and is fully prepared for the following day’s deliveries. Working as the key link between the trunking, warehouse, and planning teams, you’ll manage live operations, respond to issues as they arise, and prepare accurate next-day plans to set up the daytime operation for success. This is a standalone role on the night shift and, as such, our client requires a confident, proactive, and reliable individual who thrives on responsibility and variety.

Key Responsibilities as Transport Controller:

  • Take full ownership of the night trunking operation ensuring service targets are achieved
  • Allocate trailers and resources appropriately for the following day’s operation, maintaining fleet readiness
  • Ensure all night drivers arrive on time, are properly briefed, and that any attendance issues are addressed promptly
  • Manage trailer load departures, resolving driver or vehicle issues quickly to maintain on-time performance
  • Work closely with warehouse teams to ensure all freight is loaded throughout the night and departures remain on schedule
  • Oversee local fleet loading, ensuring vehicles are prepared and ready to leave the depot on time to achieve next-day deliveries
  • Plan and prepare next-day local deliveries using TMS and planning tools
  • Collate driver paperwork and digital devices ready for the following day’s routes
  • Maintain strong communication with the day planning team through a comprehensive written and verbal handover, ensuring all overnight issues and decisions are clearly captured
  • Monitor and support night drivers, responding to live operational issues, breakdowns, or delays
  • Provide a calm and professional point of contact for customers and partners during overnight hours
  • Ensure all operations run safely, efficiently, and within compliance standards
  • Proactively identify operational improvements that enhance service and reduce cost

Ideal Person for the role of Transport Controller:

  • Previous experience in a transport planning or control role, ideally within a 3PL environment
  • Strong working knowledge of transport systems (TMS, telematics, routing software)
  • Excellent IT skills – Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, and Windows-based platforms
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make confident decisions in real time
  • Clear and effective communication with drivers, warehouse teams, and management
  • Strong sense of accountability and pride in service performance
  • Commercial awareness – understanding efficiency, cost control, and utilisation
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently through the night shift

This is a fantastic opportunity – we look forward to your application.
